INTERNATIONAL COASTAL CLEANUP (ICC) DAY -2025 COAST GUARD REGION (NORTH EAST).

On the occasion of International Coastal Cleanup (ICC) day, the Indian Coast Guard Region North East, conducted beach/ coastal cleanup drives, on 20 Sep 25, in the states of Odisha and West Bengal in  alignment with Govt. of India’s    nationwide ‘Swach Bharat Abhiyan’ campaign. International Coastal Cleanup (ICC) day is conducted every year on third Saturday of September around the world. The Indian Coast Guard has joined hands with Ministry of Earth Sciences (MoES), HCL  Foundation and The Habitats Trust (THT) for the mega beach cleaning event at Puri, Odisha. 

Coastal cleanup drives were also conducted at Chandipur, Paradip, Chandrabhaga, Puri and Gopalpur in Odisha and at Haldia, Bakkhali, Diamond harbour and Digha in West Bengal. 

More than 2500 enthusiastic volunteers comprising of Coast Guard  personnel & their families, students, personnel from government and  non-government organisations and general public actively participated in this mega global coastal cleanup activity. The volunteers collected more than  1960 kgs of marine litter and 1050 kgs (approx) of plastic waste and spread the message of  importance of “clean coast, safe sea” and need of plastic litter free surroundings for a clean and healthier environment.
4.Indian Coast Guard, which has nsistently remained at the forefront of environmental and community awareness campaigns, reiterated its  commitment to organizing more such initiatives across Odisha and  West Bengal.
