GSLV-F17: India's first imaging satellite for border surveillance.

On September 4, ISRO successfully launched the EOS-05 Earth observation satellite aboard the GSLV-F17 rocket.

The launch took place at 2:55 AM (IST) on Friday from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre in Sriharikota, Andhra Pradesh. Weighing 2,367 kg, the satellite will provide precise, real-time data covering Indian borders and remote areas. It will assist in surveillance of regions bordering China and Pakistan by capturing high-resolution images.

This is India's first imaging satellite. It will provide data to enhance border surveillance capabilities, facilitate immediate disaster response (such as detecting cyclones, floods, and forest fires), and assist with weather forecasting and agricultural monitoring.

This marks a major technological milestone for ISRO following the failed GISAT-1 mission in 2021.

Data from this satellite will be valuable to Indian intelligence agencies and the armed forces for operations along tense borders with countries like China and Pakistan.

This launch of ISRO's first imaging satellite will help maintain constant surveillance over the country's borders from a distance of 36,000 kilometers.
