Today, a high-level meeting was held under the chairmanship of Hon’ble Union Home Minister Sh. Amit Shah Ji in Siliguri, in the august presence of Hon'ble Chief Minister Sh. Suvendu Adhikari ji to deliberate on a Permanent Political Solution to the long-pending aspirations of the people of our Darjeeling hills, Terai and Dooars region.

We discussed practical, concrete and actionable steps to address the long-standing aspirations and legitimate concerns of the people of our region, with a shared commitment to achieving a just, lasting and dignified resolution.

Hon’ble Union Home Minister Shri Amit Shah Ji reiterated the Government of India’s firm and unwavering commitment to addressing these issues. He assured us that, under the decisive and visionary leadership of Hon'ble Prime Minister Sh. Narendra Modi Ji, every sincere and possible effort will be made to address the legitimate aspirations of the people of our region and to secure a meaningful and enduring political resolution.

A broad understanding has been reached today that the Permanent Political Solution (PPS) will be firmly anchored within the framework of the Constitution of India. It will ensure that the solution is strong and capable of addressing the aspirations of the people. 

The government has today appointed a High-level Committee under the Chairmanship of Sh. Pankaj Kumar Singh ji, to prepare the comprehensive framework of the proposed solution, marking an important step forward in this long-pending process.

A just and durable settlement will lay the foundation for long-lasting peace, political stability and social harmony in the region. It will create an environment of confidence and certainty, and ensure that the region’s rich identity, culture and aspirations are respected and protected.

Most importantly, a lasting political solution will bring an end to decades of uncertainty and provide our future generations with an opportunity to live with dignity, peace and prosperity. It will open a new chapter of development and cooperation, where the energies of our people can be channelled towards building a stronger, more prosperous and more secure region, fully integrated with the aspirations and progress of a New India.

The meeting was attended by the Union Home Secretary Sh. Govind Mohan Ji, Members of Parliament, Members of the Legislative Assembly, Director IB Sh. Mahesh Dixit Ji, Interlocutor Sh. Pankaj Kumar Singh Ji, WB Chief Secretary Sh. Manoj Kumar Agarwal Ji, DGP WB Siddha Nath Gupta Ji, and Gorkha political leaders. The participation of all stakeholders reflects a shared resolve to arrive at a just solution.
