7 th ARMED FORCES VETERANS DAY CELEBRATED AT FORT WILLIAM, KOLKATA .

The 7th Armed Forces Veterans Day was celebrated by Headquarters Eastern Command 
on 14 Jan 2023. This day is celebrated every year as a recognition of the services rendered by the first Commander-in-Chief of Indian Armd Forces, Field Marshal KM Cariappa, OBEwho retired on 14 Jan 1953. It's the mark of recognition and respect for the uncountable silent sacrifices veterans and their families made for the cause of peace 
and territorial integrity of our nation. To mark this day in a befitting manner, a wreath laying ceremony was organized wherein Maj Gen SS Kahlon, VSM behalf of Army Commander Eastern Command & veterans from all three services paid their homage to the fallen soldiers at Vijay Smarak, Fort William, Kolkata.

Indian Army is actively engaged in translating its commitment towards the welfare of the veterans through numerous ongoing programs as well as initiating new projects. One of such new initiatives is giving impetus on provisioning of timely and good medical treatment. Towards this end memorandum of agreement between Assam State Health Dept and Indian Army were signed to cover Cashless & Capless treatment of veterans at 8 medical colleges and 10 units of Assam Cancer Care Foundation.

Another initiative was instituted by establishing 37 Veteran Suvidha Kendra (VSKs) in remote and inaccessible areas. The main focus of these VSKs is to provide intimate support to the veterans, related to various issues pertaining to their pensions, entitlements etc. In yet another endeavor, on the spot resolution of grievances for pensioners was organised through Raksha Pension Samadhan Aayojan on 06 Jan 2023 at 
Ranchi. Apart from the above there were numerous programs organised on different 
fields, such as job replacement, skill development and education facilities etc throughout the year. On this Veterans Day the armed forces evoke its resolve to continued support and care for its veterans.
