SSB Seizes ₹9.74 Lakh Indian Currency at Indo-Nepal Border

On specific intelligence at New Mechi Bridge, Panitanki, SSB personnel intercepted a Mahindra XUV300 proceeding from India to Nepal and recovered ₹9,74,000/- in Indian currency concealed inside the vehicle on 15th July.

Two occupants, Jiwan Biswakarma (49) and Rahul Nepal (25), both residents of East Sikkim, failed to produce valid documents supporting the lawful carriage and export of the recovered currency. Their explanations were found to be unsatisfactory.

Accordingly, the ₹9.74 lakh in Indian currency, the Mahindra XUV300, and the two individuals were handed over to Customs Office, Panitanki, for further investigation and legal action under the Customs Act, 1962.

SSB continues to maintain strict vigil along the Indo-Nepal border to curb illegal cross-border activities.
