On International Women’s Day, 50 Army wives at Kolkata and Ranchi showcased their art and entrepreneurial skills thereby revealing their creativity side.

From being a pillar of strength to her husband, loving mother to her kids, a companion to her friends and a professional, one has seen army
wives step into myriad roles. On International Women’s Day, 50 Army wives at Kolkata and Ranchi showcased their art and entrepreneurial skills thereby revealing their creativity side.
International Women’s Day is a global event which celebrates achievements of women in cultural, social, economic and political fields. This day
marks a call – to – action for acceleration gender equality. Echoing the sentiments of women’s day, Army Wives Welfare Association (AWWA) organised a Pan India Exhibition for its Artists and Entrepreneurs under Central and
Regional AWWA. 

The event was organised at Academy of Fine Arts, Rabindra Sadan, Kolkata on 08 Mar from 12pm to 8pm. It was inaugurated by Mrs Reena Dewan, Director of Kolkata Centre for Creativity (KCC).
Army wives with exemplary creativity exhibited a range of arts – Mandela, Zentangle, Acrylic painting, Pencil sketches, fabric art, Madhubani, water colour, canvas paintings and many more. Other than artistic work, a variety of handmade craft items were also showcased – Handmade Resin products, Decoupage, Alcohol inks, Mixed Media, handbags, embroidery works, jewellery and Artefacts.
The Art gallery was full of talents and josh of Army wives. The public who came to witness the exhibition were truly amazed and mesmerized. 
Army Wives Welfare Association is a NGO initiated by Army Wives and started in 1966 to work for the general welfare of the spouse and the dependent family members of the serving and the retired personnel of the Indian Army of all
ranks, including the widows of the personnel of the Indian Army. Over the time, AWWA has undertaken a number of Community Outreach Programmes for underprivileged civilians as well.
